A 16-month Program
What do you learn and experience in MPBI or the Master of Arts in TEFL of WIDYA MANDALA GRADUATE SCHOOL? Besides the Core Program and the previously Elective Programs, EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP and TEACHING ENGLISH TO YOUNG LEARNERS, MPBI is now coming to you with a new Elective Program: LINGUISTICS STUDIES.
The Study program is now offering the possibility for teachers of English to take credit-earning activities by joining the Educational Leadership, Teaching English to Young Learners, or Linguistics Studies as the Elective Programs of the Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. At the end of each course, a participant who passes the course will receive a certificate.
To maintain the quality of our school, we employ qualified teaching staff all holding doctoral degrees and some of them being full professors. Three Masters who teach the Minor Programs are practitioners in their fields.
Aims of the course
The MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language is an exciting opportunity for qualified individuals to deepen their understanding of English language teaching theories and practices. This is achieved through taught units, practice teaching, workshops and research opportunities in English language teaching. Comfortable classrooms with modern teaching media enable multi entry students having different teaching experiences to learn and develop their English and ELT as well. The program also allows students to reflect on both the aims of English language teaching and the appropriateness of techniques for achieving success. Graduates of this Study Program are expected to be competent English teachers at any level of education. Indeed, graduates of this course are ready to continue their study in higher level of education, the doctorate program, in the field of ELT.

Matriculation: The Chair of English Education Department may assign applicants to join the matriculation program for one or more of the following reason: (1) the passing score (of the entrance test) is slightly above the border line, (2) their knowledge and skills need to be update, and/or (3) the applicant's S1 degree is not in English. I joined the Master of Art in TEFL Program at UKWMS in 2006. During my study there, I had lots of challenging and enriching experiences. The instruction was really student-centered. Not only did we have to spend long hours working on our assignments, but we also had to present papers in seminars almost every day. Actually, at the beginning it was daunting. I was wondering if I could go through it. To my surprise, with friendly atmosphere, sophisticated educational facilities, complete library, fantastic services and supports offered for the students, I managed to finish it in 16 months with GPA 4. Exaggerated it might sound, the opportunity to learn from qualified teaching staff all holding doctoral degrees and some full Professors, made me academically grown up.
Last but not least, I was especially impressed with the exceptionally fine and noted Professors who also displayed a real spirit of concern. I felt very much at home during my study there. For those who want to be qualified English teachers and lecturers, why don’t you join the Master of Art in TEFL Program at UKWMS. It is really good and challenging , too
I am very happy being a student at the Graduate School of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya because of its high quality of teaching and services. The lecturers are internationally recognized professors and senior (PhD/Dr) lecturers with various specialization and experiences in English field. The prominent sound of IT is the main professional lecturer resources in assisting the students in comprehending the materials. Therefore, the classes are always interesting and satisfying our expectation to attend selected classes. As all lectures are presented in English, I can improve my English at all
aspects significantly even as for an economic degree. Now, I am practically more confident to present papers in English at an advance seminar. The extraordinary facilities such as dinner served before class, full air-conditioned rooms, library with up-to-date collection, computer facilities with internet access and friendly atmosphere have caused
learning processes comfortably. The helpful and easy contacted staffs have additionally made academic activities substantially supportive.
